Dr. Amy Wenninghoff
I am originally from Minot, North Dakota, and I met my husband, Garin—a Wahoo, NE, native—when completing my undergraduate studies at the University of North Dakota. I graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2012, and we were married a week later. We then moved to Omaha, where I completed a one-year general practice residency at UNMC and the VA, focusing on dentistry for adult patients with special needs, comprehensive dental rehabilitation for our veterans, and care for patients with complex medical problems.
Next, we moved to Lincoln and have been here ever since. We have two wonderful daughters, Sydney and Grace, and when I’m not in the clinic, you can usually find us exploring the parks and trails in town.
I have always enjoyed using my hands and expressing myself creatively. In high school, you could find me filling my schedule with as many art electives as my mom would let me! At the same time, I enjoyed science, anatomy, and physiology. When I was in college, my sister started dental school, and through our many conversations, I felt it was also a good path for me.
I am a clinician at heart, and I love helping people. Developing relationships with my patients is, by far, my favorite aspect of the job. As a general dentist, I offer all dental services and work closely with local specialists when a patient’s care is complex. What I find most rewarding is helping individuals who have had a hard time with their teeth, whether from significant decay, periodontal disease, or trauma.
I try to get to the root of the problem—finding the why is the most important thing I can do for a patient. Seeing patients who are frustrated with dental problems or in pain, helping them understand what is causing these conditions, and restoring their teeth to optimal dental health is the most rewarding thing I can do.
