Full & Partial Dentures

Have you lost some or all of your teeth and wonder if dentures are the right tooth replacement for you? At Roots Dental in Lincoln, NE, we understand that living with an incomplete smile can be emotionally and physically challenging.

With beautiful, natural-looking dentures custom-crafted just for you, we can help restore your confidence in your smile. Well-made replacement teeth enhance your appearance, allow you to smile confidently and chew comfortably again, and even restore a higher quality of life.

Types of Dentures We Offer

The two types of removable dentures are full and partial. As the name implies, full dentures replace all missing teeth in the upper or lower arch or both.

  • Full removable dentures are customized to fit your jaw's contours perfectly. Also called complete dentures, the prosthetic rests on the gums and is held in place by natural suction and dental adhesive.
  • We use partial dentures when several teeth are missing, but some healthy teeth remain. Partials fit in with remaining natural teeth and are secured with discreet, specialized clasps.

Implant-supported dentures may be full or partial and are a fantastic tooth replacement. Because we secure partials with dental implants placed in the jawbone, implant dentures solve the age-old problem of replacement teeth that shift, slip, or fall out unexpectedly.

Our Custom Dentures Enhance Your Smile

Fortunately, the days of fake-looking, ill-fitting dentures are long gone! Dentists today rely on modern materials that look more aesthetic and natural and fit more comfortably than anything your grandparents could have imagined.

Creating natural-looking replacement teeth to complement the smile takes time and attention to detail. Dr. Amy works closely with patients to craft dentures that enhance facial features and complement skin and eye color.

While planning your new dentures, she will discuss your goals and expectations with you because we want you to be thrilled with the beautiful results. Your input is crucial, so we'll spend several appointments and use wax try-in dentures to show you how your new teeth will look.

When we finalize the design, a custom dental lab crafts your final dentures out of high-quality materials, taking care to match tooth and gum color to our specifications. They carefully position each artificial tooth in the acrylic base, resulting in a one-of-a-kind beautiful smile.

Getting Used to Your New Dentures

Everyone experiences an adjustment period with their new dentures. The key is to be patient with yourself and know soon you'll be eating, laughing, speaking, and smiling confidently again.

Tips for Eating with Dentures

  • Start with soft, easy-to-chew foods, such as eggs, soft-cooked vegetables, ice cream, yogurt, soft cheeses, fish, and soup.
  • Cut food into manageable pieces and eat without using your front teeth to rip or tear food into pieces.
  • Try to chew with both sides of your mouth to balance the pressure on your gums.
  • Consider using a denture adhesive to hold your dentures comfortably in place and prevent food particles from getting trapped between your gums and dentures.

Learning to Speak Clearly with Dentures

Another common concern is speaking clearly. Here are some tips to help you acclimate:

  • Practice, practice, practice! In the privacy of your home, talk to yourself, your partner, or even your pet! You may also find it helpful to read aloud from books or magazines.
  • Often, the most difficult letter sounds to make with new dentures are "f" and "s." Try to practice these sounds regularly.
  • Before you begin speaking, bite down to lock your denture in place.

Remember, everyone goes through an adjustment period, and following these simple steps will help you get used to your new teeth in no time.
